Design of prestressed gridshells as smooth poly-hypar surface structures

This article demonstrates the design potentials of a recently developed approach for generating smooth poly-hypar surfaces, freeform surfaces made combinations hyperbolic paraboloids (hypars). In surface, double curvature individual hypar modules and connections between them ensure global bending-free structural behaviour. this article, analysis prestressed gridshell as surface is introduced. Graphic statics used to evaluate control distribution internal forces within structure. Moreover, case study, Hypar Pavilion, presented The Pavilion was prefabricated using lightweight materials low-tech manufacturing techniques. entire manually built out forty hypars, which were combined following specific sequence kinematic stability ongoing construction without scaffolding.
